On December 6, 2011, at approximately 8:20 a.m., Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded to a fire at 1125 North Spring Avenue.
First arriving crews found smoke and flames coming from the west side of the home. Crews used both offensive and defensive fire tactics. The fire was under control in approximately three hours. The house sustained heavy fire damage to the first and second floors.
The residents were out of the building prior to Fire Rescue arriving on scene. The Red Cross responded to the scene to assist the residents.
Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded with 4 support vehicles, 5 fire trucks, and 23 firefighters. There were no civilian or firefighter injuries. The house did not have a residential sprinkler system. The fire was caused by a wood burning stove.
Sioux Falls Fire Rescue would like to remind citizens to make sure that combustibles are kept away from heating sources.
