Title: Fire Sprinkler Saved Lives at 111 East Seventh Street

On Tuesday, February 7, 2012, Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded to a kitchen fire in an apartment at 111 East Seventh Street. First-arriving crews reported the fire had been extinguished by a fire sprinkler.

Property damage from water and smoke was limited, and the apartment occupant was evacuated with minor injuries and was not transported to the hospital. This event demonstrates a positive outcome where a potentially tragic event could have occurred.

The 13-story, 155-unit apartment building is managed by Lloyd Property Management. Built in 1971, the property is worth an estimated $3.3 million dollars and is home to 160 residents.

Fire Marshal Dean Lanier and Fire Inspector John Wagner will be available for questions at the Law Enforcement Center Police press conference at 10:30 a.m. today. The apartment at 111 East Seventh Street will be open for the press at 11 a.m.
