The City of Sioux Falls has issued building construction statistics for 2011, showing a record number of building permits and growth in total construction valuation.
Building Permits Issued: A record number of building permits totaling 7,823 were issued in the City of Sioux Falls in 2011. The previous record was 7,722 building permits issued in 2002. The number of building permits issued in 2011 is a 2 percent increase in the number of building permits that were issued in 2010.

Total Construction Valuation. Total construction valuation is defined as the quoted or calculated construction valuation for all commercial and residential new buildings, additions, repairs, remodels, and renovations built within the city of Sioux Falls. Since the economic downturn, the yearly construction valuation for the city of Sioux Falls has remained steady, below the $300 million level. The City of Sioux Falls had a total construction value $291,163,392 in 2011, a 2.9% increase in the 2010 construction valuation, which was $282,923,680.
Whereas 2011’s and the previous two years’ construction valuation is the lowest in the last ten years, the level of construction valuation still exceeds every valuation prior to the year 2000.
