On January 14, 2012, at 6:41 p.m., Sioux Falls Police, Sioux Falls Fire Rescue, and Rural Metro Ambulance were dispatched to 400 East Sixth Street for a female standing on the bridge railing threatening to jump. While officers were en route to the bridge, the female jumped off the bridge and landed on the ice below. The female did not break through the ice.

The female was transported to Avera McKennan Hospital with non life threatening injuries. The female was placed on a mental illness hold by officers.
