In conjunction with the recent snowfall event, the City of Sioux Falls reminds all owners or persons in possession of property abutting on public access sidewalks to clear sidewalks of snow and ice within 48 hours after every snowfall event or accumulation of snow or ice. This includes sidewalks abutting any side of the property including front, side, or back.
If the owner or person in possession fails to remove the snow or ice within 72 hours of accumulation, the City may remove the snow or ice and charge the cost to the abutting property owner per City Ordinance Chapter 38—Article V, Snow and Ice Removal.
End of Snow or Ice Accumulations: According to the National Weather Service Sioux Falls office, snow accumulation stopped at 9 a.m. on Friday, January 20, 2012.
Submitting Complaints: The City of Sioux Falls Public Parking Division will begin taking complaints beginning at 9 a.m. on Sunday, January 22, 2012, at 367-8171.
Assistance Program: The Scoop It Program is available to low-income and disabled or elderly individuals who are unable to shovel their own snow. Eligible persons must live within the Sioux Falls city limits, must be elderly or disabled, and unable to afford to pay someone to shovel their walks, or have no other means of getting the snow shoveled (ex: family, neighbor).
