On January 24, 2012, at approximately 2 p.m. Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded to a fire at 813 South Summit Avenue.
First-arriving crews found smoke and flames coming from the kitchen area on the main floor. Crews entered the house and had the fire under control in approximately 15 minutes. The home sustained moderate fire damage and heavy smoke damage.
The residents were out of the building prior to the fire department arriving on scene. The Red Cross responded to the scene to assist the residents.
Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded with 2 support vehicles, 4 fire trucks, and 22 firefighters. There were no civilian or firefighter injuries. The house did not have a residential sprinkler system. The fire is under investigation.
Sioux Falls Fire Rescue would like to remind all property owners it is their responsiblily to properly install smoke detectors.
