Mayor Mike Huether held a press conference today, January 25, 2012, at 10:30 a.m., at City Hall and presented what he considered the top ten accomplishments that Sioux Falls City government captured during 2011. Mayor Huether presented a countdown of the “2011 Top Ten Accomplishments for Sioux Falls” and provided handouts of each individual department’s top five accomplishments of the year.
The top ten included:
- 40,091 concerned Sioux Falls citizens voted in the special election on the proposed Events Center! Our people care!
- Our foundation is rock solid. Employment numbers are strong and our city’s infrastructure is a source of pride.
- More money added to our city’s piggy bank. No reserves used for the second straight year!
- Our city’s heartbeat is pumping stronger. Downtown Sioux Falls is on the move.
- The proposed Events Center project, though challenging, made great progress. The journey was the reward.
- Sioux Falls is becoming the first choice for flying again.
- Business acumen is truly being incorporated into City government and taxpayers are reaping the rewards.
- Successfully negotiated two-year labor contracts with each of the three respective labor organizations.
- Additional recreation needs are being met including investments in bike trails, ice sports, swimming, tennis and so much more.
- Our city’s commercial development, planning, and zoning processes were strengthened. As a result, customer service and communication has been greatly enhanced.
