Demographics

This neighborhood is known to be culturally diverse and has been identified as being an economically low to moderate income neighborhood area.

According to 2000 Census information, this Sioux Falls central neighborhood area has a population of approximately 3,900 persons who are low-moderate income, underserved individuals/families who are in need of assistance with asset building in order to achieve their personal and investment goals. Approximately 32% of this Sioux Falls central neighborhood area population is made up of Hispanic, Latino, American Indian, Black/African American, or Asian race.

Other changing demographics include mobility - the percent of change in student population during the school year. Mobility within the Sioux Falls School District ranges from a high of 38.2% to a low of 5.6%. One central neighborhood school, Lowell Elementary, ranks as one of the school district's highest mobility schools at 37.7%.

Promoting new and appropriate economic neighborhood development incentives for developers, business owners, landlords, and residents, by encouraging mixed use redevelopment of affordable multi-family residential uses with small retail and business office uses, will greatly benefit not only this central neighborhood, but the city as a whole.
