Waste Hauler Recycling Rates
The Sioux Falls Regional Sanitary Landfill currently licenses 30 waste haulers who provide services to residential customers. These haulers operate throughout the counties of Lake, Lincoln, McCook, Minnehaha and Turner, South Dakota. In order to use the Sioux Falls Landfill, the City of Sioux Falls requires these haulers to ease the burden on the landfill and increase sustainability by meeting an annual recycling goal.
Each waste hauler recycles a certain percentage of the waste they collect. This percentage is calculated by dividing the total weight of recyclable materials by the total weight of all materials collected, according to national EPA guidelines for measuring recycling. The annual waste hauler recycling goal is calculated as the overall percent recycled by all haulers during the previous year. For 2011, the waste hauler recycling goal is 15%.
The following table shows each hauler's name and recycling rate for January through September of 2011. The 2011 Recycling Goal of 15% is indicated by the red line.
