Project Summary
The City Of Sioux Falls in coordination with the BNSF Railway, Federal Highway Administration and the South Dakota Department of Transportation is conducting a study to identify the potential environmental impacts associated with relocating the existing railroad switch yard out of downtown Sioux Falls. This project is Phase II and Phase III of the Rail Relocation Plan developed in 2002.
The study will evaluate the feasibility and environmental impacts for potential locations of a new railroad switch yard. The evaluation will also identify the rail lines that will be removed by replacing the switch yard. Also, alternatives will be identified for new track connections required to maintain railroad operations between the three main rail lines that run in and out of Sioux Falls.
