Energy Icon Energy & Air

As our country looks to reduce its energy consumption and reliance on foreign fuel, the City of Sioux Falls is also taking steps to help make Sioux Falls a more efficient community. Efforts through all City departments are underway to help with internal energy efficiency. Air quality seems to go hand-in-hand with energy these days, and as the City seeks to address energy issues, it is also taking into account air quality through non-energy related topics as well, including radon and asbestos. Check out the links below to see what Sioux Falls is doing, and what you can do to help these sustainable efforts.

  • Transportation   
    • SAM : The Sioux Area Metro transit system can get you from here to there without burning extra fossil fuels from your own car, plus you don’t have to worry about the hassles of driving!
    • E85 Vehicles/Electric car at Water Reclamation   : Did you know the City has ethanol-fueled vehicles in it’s fleet for employees use? The Water Reclamation plant also utilizes a GEM, or Global Electric Motorcar, to patrol its property.
    • Bike Paths : Want to really be green? Don’t use fuel at all and utilize the City’s extensive bike trails to get all over Sioux Falls.
    • Bike Plan : Check out the Bike Plan, and download a free map to get wherever you need to go.
  • Fuel & Energy Use   
    • Methane Gas Capture Program : The Sioux Falls Regional Sanitary Landfill extracts the methane gas from the landfill and pumps it to POET to be used as an energy source.
