Get Involved!

The City of Sioux Falls Sustainability Program is currently evaluating volunteering possibilities for 2011 and 2012. If you would like to volunteer, please contact us at 605-367-8695

Green-ival!

The Green-ival is an annual showcase and celebration of all things sustainable in Sioux Falls. Put on by the City of Sioux Falls Sustainability Program, the 2010 event, held at Sertoma Park, featured over 35 vendors, including recycling companies, non-profit organizations, wellness organizations, cleaning products, burial services, food, and much more. This free and family-friendly event has games for kids, live music, and plenty to do and see for any and everyone.

Due to other pressing concerns, the Sustainability Program will not be hosting a Green-ival in 2011. For more information regarding the 2012 Green-ival, including applying to be a vendor, please refer back to this page next year.

BioBlitz & Ecology Day

A typical BioBlitz is a 24-hour event in which teams of volunteer scientists, families, students, teachers, and other community members work together to find and identify as many species of plants, animals, microbes, fungi, and other organisms as possible. The 2010 BioBlitz, hosted by the City of Sioux Falls and Outdoor Campus was only a four hour long event, but the team of scientists from USD, SDSU, USF, Augie, USDA, Dakota Wesleyan, and Sioux Falls Public Schools were able to identify 473 species! This event involved naturalist-led bird hikes, education presentations, and presentations of live animals from the Great Plains Zoo.
